CHRISTMAS 2008
This had to be the best Christmas of my life - why? Where do I start? My grandson's first Christmas was amazing. Both of the boys were home with us, the weather was chilly outside, the house was warm, cozy, and very Christmasy, and spending Christmas Eve with my family was wonderful. We always spend Christmas Eve at Mom's house, and this year Mom wanted a picture of her and her four girls, the main motivation being that she wants to put it on the back of her
Christmas newsletter next year. What she doesn't know is that we're going to make it into a big portrait for her to hang on her stairway, something we've wanted to do for years but never got around to doing. Baby Shawn was fascinated with a little box he found while the kids were opening their gifts. I told everyone they could have saved themselves a lot of money, he loved playing with a box! But he was in awe of the toys he got, and it will take him some time to get around to spending quality time with each of these learning toys. It was so cute watching Baby Shawn interact with cousins Aisling and Xander - Aisling definitely
loves being a "big sister" to Baby Shawn, and she says his name so cute. Jack got some bonding time in with Xander, seems he loves to be bounced softly on Jack's knee, so he was able to give Jenny a break and had him on his knee for over an hour. Since Baby Shawn loves to stand so much, he received a table that plays music and contains all sorts of buttons to push, and posing with Dad's hat, he was a cool cat. Mommy was showing him the beginning of many books he will read in his lifetime. Jack and I love reading so much and want to try and pass this on to the baby. His father wasn't a reader, either was Chris, so maybe it will skip a generation and the baby will love to escape into many worlds of fun and fantasy - so Jack and I are going to start now. Shawn was able to take a few days off from his
new job as lead driver for a moving company, that he took advantage of some quality time with his son. The baby received a toy that simulates driving, the sounds of it and buttons to push and even has a steering wheel, so here, Shawn is showing his son the ways of the road. The baby has so many toys, that after he goes to bed every night, the toys needed someplace to go, so Shawn got the baby a big baseball storage chest. Shawn loved playing little league when he was young and misses playing the game so much, he wants to hook up with an adult baseball league - he's
curious as to just how far he can throw the ball now that he's older, and even more curious on how far he can bat the ball, so we're looking into spring leagues now. Chris came out on the 23rd to spend Christmas with us, and it also gave him a chance to bond with his nephew again (they met for the first time at the August birthday bash and then saw each other again at Thanksgiving). Christmas Day dinner was at Sue's house in Yorba Linda, another great meal, this time, honey baked ham with all the trimmings. The baby was with Melissa at her grandparents' house - the baby needs to be spread around to each side of the family, so it was his turn to be with Melissa's side of the family. Saturday night Andrea and Alex are hosting a Mexican train tournament, so that will be fun. Today, while Jack was at work, Chris helped me
"tear down Christmas". I wanted to drag out Christmas longer, but then Chris was here to help and it just seemed time to straighten things up and move some furniture around, something I do every year when the tree comes down, I try something new every year. We've also been having major ant issues here at the house, so Terminix is showing up Saturday morning to help battle and conquer the enemy. Back to Christmas - Chris got what he wanted, a Tom Tom GPS device, it's pretty cool and even tells you just how many satellites are being used to get you where you want to go. Shawn wanted a watch but
couldn't decide on the black one or the silver one, so he got both of them. Jack and I didn't really exchange gifts because we want a new desk in the office, so once we decide on what we want, we'll get it sometime in the Spring. Chris found a big stuffed dog for the baby, and not only is it big, but it's very soft and squishy, and the baby just loves it. Jack received a HUGE basket from VIP Limo, a client of his at the dealership. I've never seen a bigger basket completely filled with See's chocolates, popcorn balls, candy cane suckers, dark chocolate galore and so much more. So Shawn is sitting in that bucket with the big dog behind him. Other news......Mom, Andrea, Alex, Sue and Terry are leaving on a Mexican Riviera cruise on January 4th, and I go back to work on January 5th - boo hoo! Having two weeks off is great, but they seem to go so fast. But when you hear about all those people losing their jobs on a daily basis, I'm grateful to have a job to go back to - we're all praying that Chris finds one soon!
