Christmas 2007

Christmas was filled with fun, food, family, food, friends, food, did I say food? Oy vay! If it wasn't See's candy, it was a peppermint basket from the limo company Jack services - anything that's peppermint was in that basket, and there's still more of it left! Christmas Eve at Mom's was great, as usual, prime rib for dinner with popovers, creamed corn, a broccoli/cauliflower casserole that Mom made (new this year and asked for again next year). My mom continued Granny's tradition of making many kinds of small cookies, plus poppyseed and nut coffeecakes for all of us to take home. Mom's house was filled with presents under her tree. It never seems like there's enough room for everything, but we find it. Christmas Day was a fun morning, Melissa opened up presents for Baby Shawn (Shawn Patrick is the baby's name), as well as gifts for herself, she loves anything pink. Jack gave me a Nintendo DS, and along with that three games, Brain Age I and II, and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?". Melissa received her first big baby gift, a highchair from Aunt Angie and Uncle Alex, a much appreciated gift. Melissa also received quite a few baby clothes from Aunt Sue, Uncle Terry, Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Barry, as well as a baby monitor. Chris was happy getting quite a few Kansas City Chiefs-related items, including this great leather Chiefs jacket. Jack got a sustain pedal for his keyboard from Chris and an MP3 player from Laurie. Oh yes, and the 2nd version of Harry Potter "Scene It". Christmas Day dinner was at Sue's and again she was the perfect hostess; honey-baked ham, a great potato dish, yum! Then New Year's came along and that was spent with the Haakes from down here, and the Starmers from Monterey. We taught them Mexican Train dominoes, our current obsession. One fun thing we did prior to Christmas was my sisters and I took my Mom to lunch at Jerry's Deli and then we went to see the Rockettes Christmas show at the OC Performing Arts Center. It was a lot of fun, we had great seats, the perfect parking spot, and it really put us in the Christmas mood. This is an ornament we gave to Mom to remind her of the great time we had with her at our most favorite time of the year.
