Aunt Peggy came by to visit at the hospital and I wanted to include this great picture of her and baby in the blog. Peggy has been my friend since high school (Sonora HS), 1972 to be exact, and I was her coach for both her boys. She has always been there for me and my boys, and she is the poster child of what a dedicated and loyal friend should be - I love her like a sister. Anyway, TODAY WAS OUR FIRST OUTING! Since Melissa can't drive for two more weeks, we all went to Melissa and Baby Shawn's wellness checkup. Melissa is doing well, just waiting for her stomach to work its way down to its normal size. Baby Shawn is healthy, his poop is the right color (yes, they ask you what color their poop is, you have three color schemes to choose from), his coloring is very good, and he had the lowest biliruben (Billy Rueben) score. This is a score that tells you how much jaundice a baby has - Shawn's was 1.9, the lowest St. Jude has seen, and that's a great score by the way (the score of 4 is normal). When he was born he weighed 9 lbs. 14ozs. When he left the hospital, he was 9 lbs. 12 ozs. Well, as of today, he's back to 9 lbs. 14 ozs, and that's good. He didn't make a
peep throughout his entire exam, and well, that's just how he is. He cries when he's hungry, and that's the only time he cries. He's very alert and just takes in the world. Grandma Marty came by tonight with a box of 284 diapers (he's out of newborn diapers already, now in the next size up) and more clothes, and Grandpa Larry brought over Baby Shawn's mattress for his soon-to-be arriving crib. His nursery is gaining progress. The walls have been sanded, they'll be primed and painted tomorrow, and all we need are new baseboards and the Classic Pooh wallpaper border should arrive in two days. Grandpa Larry is also working on a wonderful addition to the nursery - that will be unveiled in a picture on this blog once it's complete - we can't wait for its arrival! Aunt Angie (see
pic) came by the other day with a new Classic Pooh lamp - it has a honey pot base - too cute. I want to say here to all the family and friends that have come by, sent cards, brought gifts, emailed congratulations, or just called and said they were thinking about us. All of those kind words, thoughts and gestures mean so much to all of us here at home, and we know that Shawn's birth has been a godsend to many in the family. He has softened the blow of losing Maxx for me, and has given me the chance to again take care of someone who needs all the love I can give. Shawn's birth has brought family members together, and has made us all realize that miracles such as this can turn negative feelings into positive ones, and that every day is a new day - to hell with the past, that's over. All we can do now is move forward and Shawn is helping us with that, more than he'll ever know. Grandma Holly (see pic) came by on Sunday night, our first night home, to bring us dinner - that was so special of her to do that, and it was definitely made with a lot of love because it was very good and didn't last long at all. I hear Shawn crying, it's time to eat!
