JACK AND CHRIS GO TO DCI CHAMPIONSHIPS!
Jack left very early yesterday morning (Friday) to fly to Indianapolis. For Jack's birthday, Chris flew him out there so they could continue their tradition of watching the DCI (Drum Corps International) championships together. Chris bought 50-yard tickets the minute they went on sale back in May, and paid for Jack to fly out there - what a great gift huh? The championships have always been held in different states, last year in California for the first time, they were held at the Rose Bowl, Chris and Jack went then too. But this year the
championships have been anchored for the first time in Indianapolis. They were even building a brand new stadium, but it wasn't finished in time, so they had to move everything to Indiana University. So Jack and Chris called last night, they had just had a great dinner at one of Chris' restaurants that just opened in Indianapolis, so today is totally dedicated to DCI. Of course we're rooting for the Concord, CA Blue Devils, who so far have been in first place. I told Jack to take my camera and take pictures, and I've been assured he's already
taken some. When you're not there to do it yourself, you can only hope they'll do what you tell them to do - here's hoping. More pics when Jack returns! UPDATE: Jack returned late Sunday night and had a great time with Chris - it was a whirlwind weekend, and a lot of time spent just flying back and forth - something we're not used to yet and airline fares will only get higher! Jack and Chris had dinner at one of Chris' newly-renovated (he's in charge of the project)
Bravo Restaurant in Indianapolis - Jack's pork chops were great, and Chris who ordered steak, which is unusual for him, said he can't pass up their steaks, just too good. The DCI Championships were the best this year than they've ever been, and they're looking forward to next year already. They enjoyed seeing Indiana University, and is that the track where the bike race scene from "Breaking Away" took place? Terry asked that question, we'll research the answer. Chris is anxious to meet his nephew, Shawn when he comes out next weekend, and is just anxious to come home, period! We're ALL looking forward to that! He left home on his new adventure on January 31st of this year and it seems so much longer than that.
