SHAWN'S BAPTISM - FEB 15, 2009

On Sunday, February 15th, Shawn Patrick Triefenbach was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Yorba Linda. Family and friends were present to witness this wonderful event for our family, and we thank everyone who came to celebrate! Baby Shawn was lucky enough to have two godmothers, Shawn's Aunt Andrea, and Shawn's longtime friend, Tara. Baby Shawn's godfather was Shawn's brother, Chris, who with his girlfriend, Jackie, flew out here from Iowa to participate in this special occasion. Baby Shawn was baptized with seven other children, and although we thought he would have been the oldest child baptized, it turned out that he wasn't. (Most babies are baptized within months of their birth.) Baby Shawn wore a traditional baptismal outfit - white satin pants, and a white satin shirt, vest and tie, along with a white satin hat, but that stayed on his head less than a minute. My mother made a christening gown for her four daughters, and that same gown was worn by her four grandsons. Had Baby Shawn been younger, he would have worn that same gown too, but that's ok, he looked so darn cute. The ceremony was short and sweet, but it was very meaningful to all of us "cradle Catholics" (Catholics baptized within the first year of birth) standing in the pews. My mother got to see her great-grandson baptized, and that meant so much to her. Melissa's mother, Marty was there, as well as Melissa's grandparents, Jim and Peggy. The day was supposed to be rainy, but it turned out to be a beautiful day without any rain. After the ceremony we drove to Godmother Andrea's house for a wonderfully delicious reception. My sister Sue made beautiful cupcakes, and my sister Andrea put together an excellent buffet. She also presented parents, Melissa and Shawn, with a cross to keep in Baby Shawn's room above his crib. The baby received many beautiful cards and quite a few savings bonds intended for his college education. As Baby Shawn's outfit here shows, he's our newest Cradle Catholic.
