BABY SHAWN'S 4-MONTH DR. APPT

Baby Shawn had his 4-month doctor appointment today and weighs in at a hefty 17 lbs. He's in the 95% percentile on weight and height and is in perfect health. He had two shots in one thigh, one shot in the other thigh, and an oral medication. Just like last time, he cried for about a half minute and then was fine - again he's sporting two Charlie Brown band-aids. The pediatrician surprised us all today with the news that he's leaving his practice and taking a big adminstrative position at St. Jude Medical Center, so we'll be seeing a new doctor in October. Another set of shots then, then nothing until he's a year old, and then again when he goes into kindergarten. As he gets older, I'm sure his reaction to these shots will change, and with his size, he may just punch out the doctor by the time he's one year old. The doctor got quite a kick out of Shawn with his good nature, smiling and overall personality. He felt Shawn's gums for any noticeable tooth activity, but nothing was there. So as far as food goes, he can start on rice cereal once a day, and it will take about a week for Shawn to get used to a new way of receiving food. They now tell you to put vegetables in the cereal instead of fruit because they want babies to be more used to eating vegetables since all babies love fruit, and that makes a lot of sense to me. Shawn, his father, loved sweet potatoes, peas and carrots, so we'll see how far the leave falls from the tree.......
